Welcome to The Maboneng Township Arts Experience. A destination and people development organisation based in South Africa and run by Siphiwe Ngwenya – THE FOUNDER.
To date, we have transformed “poor” areas in South Africa into interactive tourist destinations where the family is at the centre of the economic exchange. Visitors from all over the world are enjoying this new way of experiencing travel, while local community members are building their communities and making a living at the same time.
This is our mission: to introduce a participatory model into travel that engages in building destinations as people travel.

In this decade. THE FOUNDER is focusing on 3 projects:

The first project is in Alexandra Township. A neighbourhood in Johannesburg that is one of the most marginalised and situated literally next to the richest square mile in the whole of Africa. Alexandra Township also lies in the biggest man made forest of any city in the world. This project is called the The Neighbourhood Co-operation for Property and Development. Its mandate is to incrementally convert Alexandra Township into a successful participatory tourism and innovation hub. This will be followed by other prospective townships / neighbourhoods.
The second project is called the Creative Home Economy Sustainability Summit – CHESS. This project is a global bi annual summit that takes place in the most creative neighbourhoods of the BRICS cities over the next 10 years starting 2022. CHESS will focus on the advancement of trade, sustainability, innovation, health, architecture and neighbourhood myth making across neighbourhoods globally.
The third project is called Emancipated Nation. This project strives to see beyond the neighbourhoods / townships to acquire and build lands in South Africa for business creatives in the African diaspora globally. Our very own modern state of the art community that will serve an emancipative mandate through: property, tourism, arts residency, agri – horticulture tech and holiday timeshare investments.
Through these projects THE FOUNDER aims to turn neighbourhoods globally into participatory tourism magnets. Through our projects, being an ugly duckling neighbourhood next to the richest square miles in the world could be a blessing in disguise for the global marginalised community discourse. Join us as we prove how small the world really is and how working together is a genetic skill that will supersede all skills. The Neighbourhood Co-operation for Property and Development

This project is set in Alexandra Township. A neighbourhood in Johannesburg that is one of the most marginalised and situated literally next to the richest square mile in the whole of Africa. Alexandra Township also lies in the biggest man made forest of any city in the world. This project is called the The Neighbourhood Co-operation for Property and Development. Its mandate is to incrementally convert Alexandra Township into a successful participatory tourism and innovation hub. This will be followed by other prospective townships / neighbourhoods. The project has already commenced.
Currently Alexandra Township is grey compared to its surroundings on a satellite map view. This is proof that the area has been marginalised through power structures that are too big for small organisations like ourselves to change. We now embark on a people funded campaign that will prove that there are high impact global citizens around the world who understand the mission we are on.
Visitors are willing and wishing to be here to experience the homes that we have already turned into galleries and cinemas. They pay to visit and the proceeds go towards the staff, gallery home owners, shuttles, guides and managers.
Now we want to rebuild the entire infrastructure. Break a whole block down and build an innovation that will be an example to municipalities. An illustration that a united people can indeed do it themselves without being belittled, accused of causing the problem. This is one of the many excuses used in an effort to hide the incompetency of the municipal machinery in emancipating the poor.
Join us in turning this Township block into a Town of its own. With your support we will work with social designers, architects, the tourism industry and families to build a structure that will house the original inhabitants and also cater for innovative business spaces within the structure that will enhance the destination as a tourism magnet. The building will be for and run by the original local inhabitants. Our goal is that the project should be visible by 2030 inline with the South African National Development Plan to end poverty by 2030.

The Creative Home Economy Sustainability Summit - CHESS

This project is called the Creative Home Economy Sustainability Summit – CHESS. This project is a global bi annual summit that takes place in the most creative neighbourhoods of the BRICS cities over the next 10 years starting 2022. Major gatherings will be taking place in 3 of the most creative neighbourhoods around a chosen city. It will be a 3 day summit to accommodate movement to every neighbourhood that has a CHESS activation.
CHESS will bring together global experts and specialists from around the world to focus on the advancement of trade, placemaking, sustainability, innovation, health, architecture and neighbourhood myth making across the world’s neighbourhoods. People’s homes in these communities will be utilised as venues for meetings, stalls, information centres, galleries, booths and more. The movement will be facilitated by shuttles and local guides.
The summit will boost the local economy an enhance a global discourse to demystify and de-stigmatise neighbourhoods as a global necessity and urgency.
CHESS has already started a global partnership plan in Baltimore, India, China, South Africa and Austria. We consider this project to have commenced and would welcome you with open arms in our journey. We envision this project to generate a global following and a social movement that will inspire the youth to take part in patriotism and neighbourhood advancement in every sense of the concept.
At the end of any CHESS event. The community must have activated a movement to increase tourism destinations, the neighbourhood brand and make a sustainable place to live for children.

Emancipated Nation

This project strives to see beyond the neighbourhoods / townships to acquire and build lands in South Africa for business creatives in the African diaspora globally. Our very own modern state of the art community that will serve an emancipative mandate through: property, tourism, arts residency, agri – horticulture tech and holiday timeshare investments.
The land will cover a span of 1000 hectares situated in different coastal and inland prime lands around South Africa. These lands will have 5 separate living accommodations and farming areas. The land will also have game, silos, boreholes, renewable energy, game viewing vehicles, guides, assistance, land manager, wifi based isolation, farmer assistance.
The lands will cater workshops and experiences that impart high impact global citizenry skills and tact. To achieve this goal these workshops will utilise the environment, farming, isolation, animal behaviour, innovation, spiritual literacy and mapping.
The Emancipated Nation lands will have permanent residents, temporary arts residents, hotel accommodation houses and people interaction facilities.
